To kids in general, the beauty of the natural world elicits wonder and curiosity. It?s a big playground just waiting to be explored. Hiking is a great way to combine quality family time with the benefits of fresh air, exercise while exploring the natural world.

For most children, it?s not about how long the journey is; it’s about the journey itself. Think about it from their perspective. They are slower and their legs are smaller and closer to the ground so by taking the time to look at the world through their eyes, with their sense of wonder and their short attention span, you can take a cue from them and build a real appreciation and a love for the outdoors with our children.

This is a great time to just slow down to their pace and enjoy the hike. It may only consist of only hiking a half mile over the span of two hours, but that?s okay. Let them set the pace. Give them their own pack to carry just the essentials at first: a snack, some water and a spare layer of clothes. Also, attach a plastic whistle to the backpack so your child can summon help if needed.

As a parent, your job is to be sensitive and aware of their energy and attitude, and be ready to make alternate plans at a moments notice. Most importantly, you must be prepared to carry them when they get tired. And at some point, they will.

Here are some helpful hints and things to keep in mind when preparing your children for hiking.

1. Make sure you pack snacks in small plastic bags so your child can munch as you walk. Offer things like bite-size pieces of fruit, nuts or trail mix and crackers about every half hour if they are walking to keep their blood sugar level up. It will give them a boost of energy.

2. For small children, bring spare diapers and a sealable plastic bag to store them when soiled. Be considerate of others. Don?t pitch them within the forest, and don?t bury disposable diapers.

3. Bear in mind to stop every hour or so to allow for rest, or for toddlers, a time to run around a bit.

4. Apply sunscreen to your child. Make sure it’s at least SPF 15 and protects against UV rays.

5. If the weather is cold, keep your child bundled up. Children will become cold long before adults will.

6. If the weather is hot, a T-shirt and shorts are suitable for kids to wear. Wearing a hat can be a good idea. That is if you can keep it on their heads and not thrown along the trail somewhere. Attaching a small umbrella to the backpack can be quite handy to use for shade, especially if you are hiking in open country.

7. Establish safety rules for your children. Before taking your kids out on a hike, make sure you stress the importance of remaining on the trail and staying put within the unlikely event you become separated. Also, dress your child in bright colors to make him or her easier to spot.

8. Scale back your expectations. Whether your child is riding on your back or tramping at your side, he or she will determine the pace.

Children don’t seem to care about mileage, or destination, it’s the sense of wonder that will to stay in your memory. Spider webs, dew drops, a crawling bug, a butterfly, even an ant hill can be fascinating. There can be a real sense of joy in re-discovering nature through a child?s eyes. As they grow, they will begin to enjoy the hike, the mileage and the view from the top a lot more, but starting early will allow you to work up to that point, together, as a family.

i wanna buy these halo lights that are 200 dollars, but theres the same lights with a HID kit for 250 dollars, so what is a HID kit?

HID is high intensity discharge
It is a system where instead of regular light bulbs you have zenon (or xenon) gas filled bulbs.
running alongside is an electronic probe that fires the gas in the bulb
all this is controlled bya small module on each headlight.

take a toyota prius for example. pricing out the headlight , the probe , the bulb , and the module , and you have a headlight that costs around $1500 each.
i used to work in a body shop a few years ago and i remember how expensive those prius headlights were.

the HID kit you are looking at……what does it consist of ?
sounds too cheap to be effective.

halos are illuminating rings in your headlgith fixture that go infront of and around your light source, it is popular to have them in various colors. they are not a signifigant source of light for drivign purposes.

HIDs are High Intensity Discharge lamps, they consist of a xenon gas filled chamber with varriing elements inside.A high voltage controllers iniates an arc of elctricity with a voltage spike upwards of 20kv and then lowers the voltage to maintain the arc and operate the bulb.the arc of electricity turns the elements inside into an illuminating plasma which isa the source of the light.

HIDs are signifigantly brighter than halogens by 2 -3 times. and offer a bulb life span that will typically outlast the car itself.

Beware imitation xenon/hid bulbs that are simply halogen bulbs with a tint on the glass to make the light appear more white or blue.

If you need a set of real HIDs message me for details or email FERRETnPARROT@aol.com

There is nothing like the great outdoors to stimulate your senses and inspire you. Setting off into the woods knowing that you have a gorgeous destination ahead can get your adrenaline pumping. Make sure you enjoy the adventure to its fullest by being prepared to face any danger that may lie ahead.

Even though the woods are a great place to escape to, they can also be dangerous if you aren?t careful. So before you head out, make sure you have everything you require for a safe trip both in and out of the woods.

Pack Suitable Clothing
The first thing to take into consideration when hiking is the weather. It may be warm at the base of the mountain, but you may locate that the top of the mountain has a distinct climate completely. So the first rule to hiking is to dress in layers and bring spare clothing. You can always take layers off if you get warm, but if you don?t have extra clothing with you, you can?t protect yourself if you run into inclement weather.

Plan for Rain
Always plan for rain, even if the sky is clear at the head of the trail. Hiking in wet clothing can be miserable, and unsafe. So pack water resistant clothing, such as a poncho or windbreaker, before you head out. These items don?t take up much space in your backpack, and can prove invaluable if you discover yourself in the middle of a rainstorm.

Wear Appropriate Footwear
The type of shoes you wear on your hiking trip is also important. If you can, invest in a solid pair of boots that are specifically designed for hiking. They are usually designed to help you get a good grip on uneven terrain, while providing your feet with the suitable support needed to keep you comfortable for long periods of time. Whenever possible, choose boots that are waterproof to help keep your feet dry regardless of the conditions.

Pack Plenty of Food
Don?t forget to bring plenty of food with you on your trip. You don?t need to pack your entire refrigerator, but pack at least a few items to help curb your hunger in case you end up out inside the woods longer than you anticipated. Energy bars, fruit, trail mix, cereal and other finger foods will keep for a long time, and can be easy to eat while hiking.

Always Bring Water
Water is essential. Make sure you have plenty of clean drinking water in your backpack for everyone in your party. Clean fresh water can be difficult to come by, and even the freshest stream may be filled with bacteria, so taking a few bottles of water with you are going to help keep you hydrated while you hike.

Bring Safety Gadgets
In addition to packing the right clothes and food for your trip, you are going to also desire to make sure you have some essential gadgets to help keep you safe. A few items to include are a compass (make sure you know how to use it before you head out), a whistle (in case you run into trouble), a pocketknife (you never know when you may need one), matches, a flashlight, a bandanna (to use as a tourniquet in case you get hurt), insect repellent, and a first aid kit. These items don?t take up much room and can make the difference between a successful trip, and trouble on the trail.

Invest in a Good Backpack
With all of the safety items you want to bring with you when you go hiking, it doesn?t seem possible to pack light, but you can, especially if you are carrying the right kind of backpack. A traditional backpack that you may use for school may work if you aren?t traveling far, but if you have something vigorous planned, you are going to want a backpack that won?t strain your muscles. It really is important to invest in a good, solid backpack that evenly distributes pressure on your back.

Several distinct varieties are available, but most backpacks that are specifically designed for hiking have reinforcements such as clasps and bars that run along the side of the bag to help keep the backpack in place while you hike. They also usually have pockets on the outside that can provide you with easy access to water or other important items. So if you plan to make hiking a regular activity, it really is worth spending the money to purchase a good quality backpack that will be rugged enough to see you through years of hiking, while providing the right support for your trip.

The feeling of satisfaction when you reach the summit of a mountain is indescribable, but numerous people underestimate the power of the great outdoors. As satisfying of an adventure as hiking can be, it can also be dangerous if you aren?t prepared. So make sure you make it in and out of the woods safely by hiking safe and packing smart. You will enjoy your adventure a lot much more if you head out knowing that you are prepared for any obstacle you may encounter.

My master power window switch wouldn’t bring down all 3 windows other than the drivers side window but i was missing the child safety switch. I some what fixed it by using foil and the back 2 windows work but my passenger window still doesn’t work and i don’t know whether the switch was fault by the drivers side or both switch was faulty or the motor was defective…

Any advice would be greatly be appreciated.

Chances are that at some time the window was left down, and the switch got wet (from rain most likely), this is a very common problem. Try a used one from a junk yard, as a new one you will have to get a loan on your car, they are expensive.

Try going to a muffler shop and they could make a custom exhaust for about $180-$300.
Check out Magnaflow and Flowmaster mufflers!
